Manheim Auction Services, which celebrated its 100-year anniversary in 2021, has introduced a hybrid sales program in September 2022 to offer greater flexibility to dealer customers, according to Car Dealer Magazine.
The program allows customers to choose between online and physical auctions.
Managing Director Liam Quegan explained that although the company initially thought physical auctions would only be suitable for older vehicles, they discovered that a wide cross-section of customers valued the service.
While pre-pandemic, 25% of vehicles were sold online, this figure has now increased to over 50%.
Quegan believes that the hybrid approach is here for the long run and that online will become the most relevant channel over time, with a continued focus on improving the online experience to build trust and credibility.
