Motorists Turn Their Backs On Online Only Sales

Number of online car buyers shrinks as motorists turn their backs on internet

A recent article in Car Dealer Magazine has reported that the number of customers intending to buy their next car solely online has dramatically decreased.

According to a study by What Car?, the proportion of car buyers intending to purchase their next car entirely online has decreased significantly.

The research indicates that only 4.2% of potential buyers plan to buy without any physical element to their sales experience, a drop of more than 130% since June 2022, when the figure was 9.7%.

Additionally, less than a quarter of respondents felt they could get a better deal online compared to visiting a dealer, with 33.4% of those surveyed expecting a better price from a physical dealer.

What Car editor Steve Huntingford noted that there is a disparity between the number of people comfortable with buying a car online and those actually planning to do so.
