Lookers, a prominent dealer group, has recently inaugurated a new BYD dealership in Sheffield, Yorkshire, marking a significant expansion in its electric vehicle (EV) offerings. This new dealership, situated at the former site of an approved used Ford centre on Savile Street East, underscores the company's commitment to enhancing EV accessibility in the region.
The new showroom boasts space for approximately 80 vehicles, showcasing BYD’s diverse range of electric models, including the Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal, and the ETP3, BYD’s inaugural EV van in the UK. The opening of this dealership follows closely on the heels of Lookers' first standalone BYD site in Middlesbrough, indicating a rapid expansion strategy for the brand.
Ryan Smith, the General Manager at Lookers BYD Sheffield, expressed excitement about the opportunities that the new dealership brings. He highlighted the company's anticipation of expanding their stock and staff in response to growing customer interest in BYD's products and the broader EV market.
Lookers aims to capitalise on the increasing shift towards electric mobility by providing a wide array of new vehicles, with plans to integrate used models as the dealership matures. This strategy not only aligns with BYD’s traditional dealer model but also with Lookers' goal to establish a significant footprint in the UK’s EV landscape, aiming for a network of 100 dealerships by 2025.
The dealership's launch also signifies Lookers' confidence in BYD's market potential, supported by their luxurious flagship store in Mayfair, London, and a robust UK dealer network including partnerships with entities like Arnold Clark.
Mark Blundell, BYD’s UK marketing manager, also shared insights into the UK’s electrification plans at the recent Car Dealer Live 2024 conference, reflecting the brand's proactive engagement with industry stakeholders to promote EV adoption.
The new BYD dealership in Sheffield is not just a testament to Lookers' growth strategy but also a beacon for sustainable transportation solutions, promising to enhance the EV buying experience and supporting the UK's environmental goals.
