Tesla, the renowned American electric vehicle manufacturer, has reached a significant milestone by completing the construction of its highly anticipated Cybertruck. The company recently shared an exciting photo on Twitter, featuring a group of workers proudly posing alongside the futuristic pick-up truck at Giga Texas. This achievement comes four years after the Cybertruck was first unveiled to the public, generating immense excitement and anticipation among automotive enthusiasts and potential buyers.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has been candid about the challenges associated with bringing the Cybertruck to production. In particular, he highlighted the difficulties posed by the pick-up's unique stainless steel body, which presents welding and construction complexities. During Tesla's annual meeting in May, Musk acknowledged the potential affordability hurdles due to the Cybertruck being a new vehicle with a novel manufacturing approach. Nevertheless, he emphasised the novelty and appeal of the Cybertruck, stating, "In the grand scheme of things, relative to the production rate of all the other cars we make, it will be small. But it's still very cool."
Initially, Tesla had announced three different configurations for the Cybertruck, including a single motor variant with a 250-mile range starting at $39,900 (£30,478), a dual motor model with a 300-mile range priced at $49,900 (£38,117), and a tri-motor version offering over 500 miles of range and a price tag of $69,900 (£53,394). However, the company has remained tight-lipped regarding updated pricing and specifications. Musk has hinted at revealing more details during the first handover event, expected to take place in the third quarter of this year.
Industry analysts have weighed in on the potential market reception for the Cybertruck. Emmanuel Rosner, an analyst at Deutsche Bank, predicted relatively modest sales figures, estimating that Tesla will sell around 2,000 units this year. This projection represents a small fraction of the approximately 1.8 million vehicles the company anticipates selling in total.
The completion of the first Cybertruck has generated considerable interest within the car dealer and motor trade communities. Enthusiasts and potential buyers eagerly await further updates on pricing, specifications, and the subsequent production and delivery timeline. As Tesla continues to innovate and disrupt the automotive industry, the Cybertruck represents a unique addition to its electric vehicle lineup, combining cutting-edge design with impressive performance capabilities.
